I released a clip from my recent trip into the peat swamp. The title, “Never Go Alone”, is a harbinger of a dire end. This clip has a very short setup, in which I’m navigating the marshy woods and I step into a harmless looking spot that ends up being an insidious cauldron of bottomless, man-eating peat. I try to stay calm, as I reach for anything that I might use to effect my escape.
I churn the mud around me, but there isn’t a root or log to be found. Thanks to the organic makeup of the peat, my descent is relentless, and the mud eventually swallows me, completely, as I struggle to keep breathing.
This clip is a classic sink. There are no distractions, special effects, fireworks, or commercial interruptions. What you have is just one man, alone and trapped. His efforts to escape are futile against the merciless, tireless, and hungry swamp muck. This is why you should Never Go Alone, into the swamp.
i like the way you describe things
That pit looks superb for some more of your excellent vids
Thanks, Andy. That pit is one I have used many times. It’s my go-to peat pit.
