May 13, 2011 – mixing some sand with clay and adding it to the claypit to raise the level of the clay and to alter the texture of the kaolin clay. The pure kaolin is very unmanageable. I did some testing with a 50-50 sand to kaolin mix and found that the mix was easier to sink into and easier to clean up.

would that solidify like your old pit had a tendancy to do?,.. be great if you could make it really really deep 🙂
great work doug 🙂
The pond liner will keep it from drying out, and I keep it covered so the rain can’t leech away the fine clay. It should last a long time. If I ever find an affordable way to make a deep pit that is sealed, I’ll transfer the clay over to it.
Nice looking mudpit. Looks as if the clay pit would be as fun as the swamp mud, just not as deep. The video camera produces such a beautiful high quality picture. Identify the camera? What did you pay for it? Where did you purchase it? Look forward to the next photos from the clay pit??? Good Day.
Abashira, I’m going to upload a few frames from the original video, exactly the way they came off the camera, to give you a better idea of the image quality from the JVC GZ-HM1. (See my other reply for answers to you other questions)
The camera I used for this video was a JVC GZ-HM1. It is a nice camera, for a consumer model. I prefer it for the “simple” videos, because it’s easy to setup and use. I paid around $830 for it when I bought it from B&H Photo Video last fall. The documentation is pretty poor, so it took me a while to figure out the manual controls.
You should see the video in it’s full 1920 x 1080 resolution. I wanted to put it on here in higher resolution, but the video is too long, so the file would have been too large.
