Exploring a Tributary

Muddy, black speedos in the swampThis morning, when I was supposed to be working, I slipped out for a short paddle on the creek. I figured I would miss most of the low tide, because I left late, but I caught the tail end of it, so I decided to slog up a side canal that I hadn’t explored in recent memory. I saw what I think was a large turtle, but it buried itself in the mud before I could get close enough to identify it.

You can see by the pictures that I was up to my waist in mud, at times. At other times, the mud was about mid thigh. It was difficult walking, the entire time. After 20 minutes of exploring, I rinsed off and paddled a little further down the creek before turning back. The tide was coming in fast, so I enjoyed what time I had left to paddle, then hustled back to the office, in hopes that nobody noticed I was gone.
