As I have to do with these long clips, this one is rendered in low quality (960×540), but it looks pretty good. I went out on July 4 after working a half day, so I could kayak into the forest and spend the night. I was hoping to play in the swamp on Saturday (July 5), but the weather took a turn for the worse and I ended up paddling back without any stops so I could avoid the worst of the stormy weather. I got drenched by rain on both days.
However, I took my “short cut” on my way out, which, in spite of a high tide, forced me to get out of my boat and drag it (and my friend holding the camera in her boat) through the shallow, muddy parts of the channel. As usual, it turned out to be a short-cut in distance only. Even though the tide was high, it was an intense workout and took longer than the “long” way.
Thanks to my friend, I have some video to share. The video starts with some shots from camping and then goes into an edited version of my slog.
(This clip, being a large file, is subject to removal from my server, so download a copy if you like it.)
In what way was it ‘real quicksand’? I assumed you meant you couldn’t feel the bottom but I thought that had been true many times before 😉
It’s just the right consistency to disappear into without a chance of escape, I suppose. I was really just being hyperbolic/dramatic. I am, after all, a performance artist, lest you forget.
Great fun watching you use the “short cut”. I’ve encountered that sort of mud at the coastal marsh near here. Always a turn on to sink up to my armpits or neck. Now it is warm enough in the early morning for a bit of sinking…even at 81 years old.
