No Time for Formalities

2015-08-05_begI was up late, last night, and I needed to be in the swamp by 08:30 to take full advantage of whatever low tide was available. We’ve had a lot of rain the past few days. Today was the first sunny day we’ve had this week, so I was anxious to get out. As it turned out, I got a late start. I arrived at the mud well after nine. The tide wasn’t super low, but it was low enough for several of my spots to be exposed.

I knew that low tide wasn’t going to last long. I had two things working against me; 1) the amount of water coming down the creek from the recent rains, and 2) the upcoming high tide was going to be higher than normal. I knew when those two forces started moving against each other, the water was going to pile up fast.

2015-08-05_midThe other thing that happens when we get a lot of rain is that trash gets washed into the creek with the runoff. I can’t paddle past trash without picking it up. That slowed me down a bit, also. When I did get to the spot I picked to get muddy, there was lots of exposed mud, and it looked really good. It was about then that I noticed the current had reversed and the tide was coming in. I didn’t have time to set up to shoot a movie, so I grabbed my GoPro and took it with me into the mud for a few minutes of fun before the rising tide made it all disappear.

2015-08-05_endMy visit to the mud was short, but it was still enjoyable. After mudding, I went back out to the main creek and took a short swim to cool off. Then I paddled back to my car, collected some trash from along the road, packed up everything, and headed home. The entire trip took about 2.5 hours. It was just enough of a tease to make me horny. I’ve been pretty busy this week, but I’ll probably find something to get myself off later today, if nothing unexpected comes up. TMI? 🙂

p.s. The frames you see here are from the GoPro video, but I’m not sure what will happen to the video, since I don’t have any good audio to go with it. The last frame (bottom left) shows the tide creeping up on me. I’ve already used some of the tide water to rinse the front of my shorts.
